SUMMER NEWSLETTER

Dear Parents,

While the grass continues to rapidly grow due to all the summer rain, there is no grass growing under the feet of those in the school offices!! We are hard at work, getting ready for all the children to come back, and we're getting ready to welcome new children to our school. Please talk to new parents you might see at "Meet the Teacher" time or whenever you might see someone you recognize as a new parent.

Our theme for the year is: "Encourage one another and help one another..." This theme is taken from St. Paul's first letter to the people of Thessalonica. We chose it because we can practice it by the nice things we say to one another and the thoughtful things we can do for one another. Be on the watch for those things your children may be doing and do thank them, as well as encourage them to persevere in their good works!

We welcome Mrs. Grace Potthast, our new Art teacher. Mrs. Potthast taught with some of us in the past and left the Catholic School community to raise two children. They aren't completely raised yet, but the family lives in Jay, NY, way out in the country! Stop in to see Mrs. Potthast and welcome her back.

We are trying to "fine tune" a couple of areas at school. While our ELA and Math scores are excellent, we are trying to work on writing and reading skills in a more direct manner throughout the school. Also, we are trying to be a place that features the Arts. To that end, we plan to produce a Christmas play, offer dance lessons in an After School program, continue to offer Art classes after school and develop a program to teach French/Spanish after school. Some of the information about those programs is contained in other parts of this Newsletter, so please read all the pages carefully.

We have a big request. PLEASE do not send one check to the office for lunch, After Care, etc. We have no way to cash checks and we cannot bring them to the bank for cashing and then distribute the money to the various places. The bank will not cash checks made out to Seton Academy, it will just accept them for deposit. Please make individual checks for individual expenses. It assists us greatly because we then don't have to write a check for cash, go to the bank, cash it, then come back and distribute the money. Thank you.

Over the summer, Fr. Patrick Mundy has left the parish of St. John's to enter the Benedictine Monastery in Elmira, NY. We welcome Fr. Timothy Canaan as the new pastor. Please welcome him to the school community when you see him.

We look forward to a wonderful year. Please contact us with your suggestions and questions! God bless you.

Sr. Brian Marie Latour, RSM,

Principal
